The South African National Parks (SANParks) along with the Honorary Rangers is proud to announce the three-year partnership with Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) for the annual Marakele Marathon that is set to take place on 7 March 2020 at the scenic Marakele National Park.
The Powerade Marakele Marathon is dedicated to raise awareness for the protection and conservation of our mighty Big 5. In this third segment of the campaign, we will be honouring and celebrating the ferocious Lion.
“Powerade is the leading sports drink brand in South Africa and is proud to hydrate athletes for the Marekele Marathon. We wish them only the best as they push forward towards the finish line. Powerade hydrates daily fitness seekers and amateur warriors who enjoy the feeling of exercising regularly and competitive sporting” said Linda Appie, Channel Development Specialist, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa.
Apart from giving access to runners to explore South Africa’s natural heritage, the marathon is an important event for runners as it is a qualifier for the pan-ultimate Comrades Marathon and the Oceans-Two Marathon.
This is according to Sipho Mkhwanazi, Northern Region Communications Manager, who said last year, this unique marathon was attended by over 1600 runners from various provinces across the country and some nationals from our neighbouring countries. “This is a clear indication that people are starting to take interest in their national parks while enjoying a run in the unique natural surroundings.”
Participants can contact us via our Facebook page – Marakele Marathon. Or enter manually at:
